AFTERCARE: FAQ for tattoos
How do I wash my new tattoo?
Gently wash the area with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap. In Bergen’s rainy climate, ensure you dry the tattoo completely with a clean paper towel before applying any ointment. Avoid direct contact with tap water for extended periods.
What products should I use?
Use only the recommended unscented aftercare ointments. During winter months in Norway, indoor heating can dry out your skin significantly, so you may need to moisturize slightly more frequently than in summer.
What should I avoid?
Stay away from swimming, saunas, and direct sun exposure for at least 3 weeks. If you’re walking around Bergen Harbor, keep your tattoo covered to protect it from the salty sea mist and windburn.
How long does healing take?
The surface typically heals within 2–3 weeks, while deeper layers take up to 2 months. Be patient; the cool, humid air here can sometimes slow the initial scabbing phase, which is actually beneficial for long-term clarity.
When should I contact the artist?
Reach out immediately if you notice extreme swelling, fever, or signs of infection. If you have questions about the hand-poked settling process or need a touch-up after the Bergen winter, we are here for you.
We prioritize your healing. If you have any concerns or questions during the process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the studio.
